It's been a busy week for me here at Forrester Media. I have had 3 large shoots this week. The first was a video covering Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. The airport is a vision of the future for airports, or so I'm told. I know the last thing on most traveler's minds is shopping, but if you're going to do it, do it while you're in Atlanta. The airport has over 100 new shops and restaurants, including Sean John and other high fashion, high end sea food restaurants, and everything in between. While I had to walk carrying my XDCam, batteries, and tripod to every end of terminals T, A, B, C, D, and E, I spent some time shooting from the airfield and that made my day.
I also shot a story about a political even with Ralph Reed and Sean Hanity. It too was shot on XDCAM hd. With 1000 people showing up for the event, it was loud and hot for a few hours. Finally I shot a project for the CDC, also on XDCam, for emergency prepardness training for CDC employees. It was scary to hear the bio terror speaker say "there are two reserves of small pox in the world, one is in Russia, the other is across the street." I learned a lot about the CDC and all the disasters they prepare for year round and how many people are actually involved.
I'd say part of my job I love is the sort of "continuing education" I get from events like these. While it's great to be using our new 350 XDCam HD, I never knew about the new developments in Atlanta's airport, which I'm in frequently. Learning the information the CDC explained about bio terror, chemical attacks, nuclear attacks, and swine flu, all helped me prepare a little better if it ever happens near me. The best part is, it's always free information if you're working the event!
